"Shows aromas of very ripe fruit and sweet tobacco, with hints of earth and spices. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with round, velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. Likeable for its soft texture. Best after 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.." (WS)
"From the 1991 vintage through 2003, the well-known producer Croft has received outstanding ratings in this journal. In that context the 2007 Croft Vintage Port is a mild disappointment. It is a straightforward effort with an attractive nose of damp earth, mineral, blackberry, and plum with herbal notes in the background. On the palate it comes off as a bit narrow, lacking in volume compared to the top wines of the vintage. It is firmly structured and is likely to evolve for up to a decade but is not a candidate for extended cellaring." (WA)
"($90) Full, bright deep ruby. Black fruits, cranberry, leather and spices, complicated by pepper and herbs and a hint of raisined fruits. Very sweet and pliant in the mouth, with black cherry and licorice flavors joined by a lightly herbal quality. Juicy, energetic wine with very good length and depth. Not really expansive yet, but it's hard to imagine this as a long-term ager. (My second bottle showed some more advanced nutty aromas and only moderate density, and finished with dusty tannins, meriting 87 points.)" (IWC)
"With its dry, dark side, this wine offers firm tannins to go with the somewhat austere structure. Of course there is sweetness here and an attractive perfumed violet aroma, but the texture dominates." (WE) |
