"This is all lean muscle, with singed mesquite and tobacco notes pushed by dark currant, braised fig, plum reduction and tar flavors that cut a broad swath. Densely wound through the grippy finish, with a mouthfilling bittersweet cocoa edge that stays polished and fresh. One of the bigger wines in the vintage. Best from 2013 through 2024. 460 cases made. " (WS)

"The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet (80% tank-aged Grenache and 20% small barrel-aged Mourvedre from 60-year-old vines) is spectacular. Its dense purple color is accompanied by an exquisite bouquet of boysenberries, mulberries, blueberries and other wild mountain blue and black fruits. Possessing great intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel and superb purity, it is a singular expression of old vine Grenache blended with Mourvedre. The finish lasts for 50+ seconds, and the wine has a skyscraper-like texture as well as a multidimensional set of aromatics and flavors. This brilliant offering is more evolved and forward than either the 2007 or 2010.

This 22-acre estate is on top of its game thanks to the efforts of the brilliant brother and sister team of Daniel and Christine Chaussy, who have been hitting all the high notes for the last 15 or more years. There are three cuvees of red Chateauneuf du Pape, and I would suggest that 2009 and 2010 are the finest back-to-back vintages produced to date (although one can not forget the prodigious 2007s turned out by the Chaussys). The 2010s are brilliant efforts across the board, potentially even better than the 2009s, and certainly more structured with higher acids and more aging potential. Kudos to Daniel and Christine Chaussy, who, by the way, are well-worth visiting should you venture into the northern tier of Chateauneuf du Pape where all their vineyards are located, just south of the ancient Roman town of Orange." (WA)

"Deep ruby. A powerfully scented, pungent bouquet displays cherry compote, licorice and fruitcake, supported by a subtle note of wilted rose in the background. Dense and chewy on the palate, offering bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors and tangy acidity. Rich but energetic, with impressive finishing thrust and cling." (IWC)
