"Bright ruby. Raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by notes of woodsmoke and peppery spices. Juicy, penetrating and energetic, with slightly bitter red berry and cherry skin flavors and a late note of anise. Plump?? but taut pinot with good finishing lift and spicy persistence." (IWC)
"A lovely, polished wine, fruity and soft. With raspberry and cherry jam, spice and smoky oak flavors, it’s made for drinking now." (WE)
Winery Notes:
Our 2009 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a blend from our three estate vineyards: Baker Ridge, Cresta Ridge and Starr Ridge and features clones 777, Pommard, 114, and 115. The clusters were hand harvested, sorted, destemmed, and sorted again to open top tanks where they were cold soaked for four days. The fermentation lasted 16 days throughout which we punched down the cap two to three times daily. Following fermentation, the tanks were drained and the skins were pressed via our basket press. The wine aged on lees for 11 months in French oak (31% new).
This blend is an incredible example of the epic 2009 Russian River Valley vintage. Luscious pomegranate and cherry aromas complement hints of brown spice. Explosive flavors of Maraschino cherry, cranberry and cola dominate the mid-palate. Super fine tannins, beautifully structured acidity and balanced oak integration create a highly complex finish. |
